Workshops & office hours

10:00 AM

Making Your First Dapp with Metamask & Truffle - Ori Shimoney

For many types of dApps (Distributed Apps), Truffle does everything you could want: It compiles your blockchain contracts and injects them into your web app. With Metamask, all your users need to do is install their Chrome plugin, and they will have their own secure blockchain accounts right in their browsers.

10:00 AM

HELLO WORLD w/BlockStack

Build serverless apps easier on the blockchain. Streamline your application code by using Blockstack auth and storage services, without worrying about data liability since users provide their encrypted data.

11:00 AM

Self-sovereign Identity & uPort Integration - joe bender

uPort's open identity system allows users to register their own identity on Ethereum, send and request credentials, sign transactions, and securely manage keys & data. Joe will walk you through how to get started adding it to your project.

11:00 AM

CRYPTO "Starter PacK" - Max Gravitt

Enjoy a presentation on combining web3, NodeJS, and React. Max will be giving the talk as a "starter pack" that you can use to build out the prototype for your hack (i.e. "insert application logic here").

12:00 PM

Build your own blockchain with Hyperledger - James Waugh

Is the public blockchain not cutting it for you? No worries, you can make your own! This workshop will go into how to get started with creating your own Hyperledger Fabric channel using the Node.js fabric-client SDK. Once you've got a channel, you can invite your trusted peer nodes to join on in.

1:30 PM

Inner workings of the Blockchain wallet - Tori Bergeron

Tori is the product lead for Blockchain.com's mobile wallet. Learn about what makes a crypto wallet tick, and how to quickly architect your own wallet creation.

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Drop-in mentorship

Need some fresh eyes on your hack? Get some advice from mentors in the afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

CAN WE COMPETE WITH AN EXISTING PRODUCT?

No, it all needs to be built from scratch day of, excluding any frameworks.

CAN I COME WITH AN EXISTING TEAM?
Feel free to bring friends but we'd love for you to meet and mingle with new folks too!

WHO OWNS THE IP/COPYRIGHT/PRODUCT?
You, of course. Personally, we are #TeamOpenSource, but it's all up to you.

WHY IS THERE A FEE?
To avoid no-shows. It is well worth it though, as we provide the food, drinks, coffee, mentoring, new friends, swag...

I'M NOT A BLOCKCHAIN DEVELOPER. IS THAT OKAY?
It's a beginner-friendly hackathon! In order to make the most of this hackathon, you should have basic programming knowledge. Ideally, you are familiar with web dev frameworks and have experience creating apps on your own as well.

WHICH BLOCKCHAINS? ONLY BITCOIN?
Any blockchain you want. Not restricted to Bitcoin. We will have mentors to help with several blockchain protocols, including Ethereum. Bring questions!

WHAT ARE THE JUDGING CRITERIA?

This will be explained during the hackathon.

SHOULD I LEARN ANYTHING BEFOREHAND?
You don't have to, but we like your spirit! To make the most of the day, reading the Bitcoin and Ethereum smart contracts developer doc and getting familiar with the basics would help.

CAN I HAVE A REFUND?

No refunds, but feel free to give your ticket to a friend.

I AM A BEGINNER AT THIS BLOCKCHAIN STUFF. AM I WELCOME?
Yes! This is an event to learn. Some people will be talented blockchain developers, some just beginners who are interested in blockchain. That's why it will be amazing ✨

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Your laptop! (We have seen people come empty-handed to hackathons before... yikes!)

NO MORE TICKETS AVAILABLE :( WHAT CAN I DO?
The venue can only support a certain number of people, so we apologize if the event is sold out. Let us know if you'd like to be kept in the loop for the next one!

WHO ARE THE ORGANIZERS?

The event is being organized by Nisha Garigarn and Dave Idell, two of the co-founders of Croissant.
